I've blogged before about the racial injustice that plagues Latin American society, but I dare say the situation in India is even worse.
Check out these ads for "fairness cream", a cosmetic cream that supposedly makes one's skin whiter. As stupid and offensive as it seems to Westerners, it's a multi-million dollar industry in India.
This ad is for men:

That's a rather blatant play on male insecurity...even more disturbing is this ad for 9X, a cream that purports to make a woman's skin nine tints lighter (and apparently, changes them into blondes):
...at the end of the ad, the guy at the counter says something like "foreign passports on that side ma'am" and she's like "stop joking, I'm Indian!"
Wow...what makes being white so appealing?
